Security high alert in Mirpur division after Joint Action Committee calls for protests

Security has been placed on high alert across Mirpur division in view of the Joint Action Committee’s proposed June 9 protest movement and shutter-down strike call.

According to officials, law enforcement agencies conducted various operations in Mirpur, Bhimber and Kotli, during which 94 suspects allegedly linked to a banned organisation were detained. Authorities recovered arms, sticks and other things during the crackdown.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kamran Ali said that indiscriminate legal action would continue against those attempting to disrupt law and order. He stated that the protection of public life and property is the top priority and warned that no one would be allowed to take the law into their hands.

The Mirpur DIG urged citizens to avoid unnecessary movement and stay away from provocative activities. He said that police, administration, and other law enforcement agencies are fully alert and closely monitoring the situation.

He stated that the solution to public issues lies in negotiations and constitutional and legal procedures, not in violence or confrontation. He added that elements attempting to disturb peace on the call of a banned organization would not be able to escape the grip of the law.

Security has been tightened across Mirpur division, with increased surveillance at sensitive locations and enhanced checking at entry and exit points. Authorities said all institutions have been mobilized to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Officials confirmed that security arrangements in Mirpur division have been further strengthened in view of June 9, with law enforcement agencies completing their preparations.
