Ex-Punjab CM assistant booked for ‘interfering in official work’

An FIR was registered in Layyah on Saturday against Syed Rafaqat Gilani, the former assistant to the Punjab chief minister and now Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP) south Punjab president, for tearing official documents and snatching Rs4,000 from a traffic police constable to protest against the lifting of his car, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

In the case registered on the complaint of Traffic Police ASI Muhammad Hashim, sections related to different offences, including interference in official duty and robbery, were inserted. 

Gilani, on the other hand, disputed the Traffic Police’s claim, and said that he had not offered resistance and that the case was unjustified. 

He alleged that the Traffic Police personnel, in order to meet the challan targets, irritated motorists.
