Gold worth thousands discovered in Duck’s stomach in China

A villager in China reportedly discovered gold worth thousands of yuan after slaughtering a duck, an unusual incident that has drawn attention online.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the discovery was made in Longhui County when a local resident identified as Liu found small gold particles inside the stomach of a duck he had slaughtered.

Liu later burned and tested the particles, which were confirmed to be real gold. The gold reportedly weighed about 10 grams and was valued at around 12,000 yuan (approximately Rs165,821).

Liu’s father described the discovery as a good omen for the coming year.

Explaining the possible source of the gold, Liu said that ducks in the village are raised outdoors near a river that historically contained traces of gold. He suggested the duck may have ingested mud from the riverbank that contained small gold particles.

Experts note that the human or animal body cannot digest or absorb gold, and the metal typically passes through the digestive system without causing harm. However, large pieces of gold can potentially cause intestinal blockage or poisoning.

Liu added that similar discoveries had been reported in the village before, with some residents finding small quantities of gold inside ducks, though he said such a large amount had not been seen previously.
