Attempt to smuggle a large cache of weapons into Pakistan from Afghanistan was thwarted on Monday when authorities seized a coal-laden container at Torkham border, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

After receiving an intelligence report, Custom officials acted swiftly and effectively and seized large number of weapons while checking a coal-laden container coming from Afghanistan at Torkham border.

The weapons were stashed in secret compartments of the container. The officials also arrested the Afghan driver of the container and handed him over to police for further legal action.

The seized weapons included 12-bore Russian and Turkis pistols, 600 cartridges of different firearms and a heavy quantity of explosives.

The weapons were part of anti-Pakistan elements’ efforts to sabotage the law and order situation in the country.
