Pakistan seeks comprehensive, sustainable ties with US

US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman has appreciated Pakistan’s assistance in the evacuation of the American citizens and others from Afghanistan and its efforts to maintain peace in the region, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The US Deputy Secretary of State Sherman along with her delegation visited Foreign Office, Islamabad and held a meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday.

Foreign Minister Qureshi apprised the US delegation of the Kashmir situation and emphasized on the just solution of the problem for the durable peace in the South Asian region. 

During their meeting, both Pakistan and the US officials exchanged views on the bilateral relations, situation in Afghanistan and regional peace.

Qureshi said Pakistan wanted a broad-based, long-term and sustainable relationship with the United States for the promotion of economic cooperation and regional peace.

He underlined the need to have a regular and organized dialogue between the two countries that was important to enhance the bilateral ties as well as to achieve shared regional objectives.

FM Qureshi welcomed US Deputy Secretary of State Sherman’s visit to Pakistan.

Ms Sherman expressed her deep sorrow over the loss of human lives and property during yesterday’s earthquake that rocked Balochistan. 

Qureshi expressed his hope that the new setup in Afghanistan would work for the welfare of Afghan people and for the creation of peace and stability in the region. He held that a representative and broad-based Afghan government could be a reliable partner for the international community.

He stressed that the international community should positively engage with Afghanistan and provide humanitarian and financial resources to it. He said concrete steps should be taken to build a sustainable economy in Afghanistan and address the difficulties of Afghan people.

He was of the opinion that both the US and Pakistan shared commonality of views on Afghanistan.
