PTI workers attack journalists outside Adiala Jail during Aleema Khan's media talk
Tensions flared outside Adiala Jail Monday as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers attacked journalists covering Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, following the Toshakhana II case hearing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The violence broke out when senior reporter Tayyab Baloch was allegedly assaulted by PTI supporters. Eyewitnesses said fellow journalists and cameramen rushed to shield him, forming a human barrier to prevent further harm. Despite their efforts, several media personnel, including journalist Ijaz Ahmed, were pushed around and verbally abused during the chaos.
The attack came after days of online threats against reporters, as PTI’s social media accounts had been targeting and warning journalists critical of Aleema Khan’s recent statements. The growing hostility culminated in Monday’s confrontation, leaving the press corps shaken.
Following the incident, journalists announced a boycott of Aleema Khan’s planned media talk outside the jail. Senior reporter Faisal Hakim of News One and Tayyab Baloch of a private channel were also caught in a scuffle as tensions boiled over.
The incident has drawn strong condemnation from within the journalist community, who called it a direct attack on press freedom and accountability. They stressed that “questioning Aleema Khan cannot and should not be treated as a crime” and demanded protection for reporters performing their professional duties.
