Power van failure leaves Mianwali-Lahore train passengers in darkness

Passengers travelling on the Mari Indus Express from Mianwali to Lahore were left without lights, fans and air conditioning after a fault developed in the train's power van, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to sources, the power van, which supplies electricity to the train, developed a fault during the journey. Sources said the operator subsequently shut down the power van, leaving the train in complete darkness.

The failure meant that lights, fans and air conditioning in the coaches stopped working. Passengers were forced to continue their journey in difficult conditions amid intense heat.

Even passengers who had paid for air-conditioned business class tickets were reportedly left travelling without electricity and cooling. The conditions caused considerable discomfort for passengers as the train continued towards Lahore.

The incident has also highlighted what railway sources described as a serious shortage of power vans in the railway system, raising concerns about the reliability of onboard electricity services on passenger trains.
