Dr Ejaz criticizes Kanwal Aftab over her response to fans after Hajj
Pakistani TikToker and digital creator Kanwal Aftab has come under fresh public scrutiny after her response to criticism from viewers sparked widespread debate on social media.
The discussion began after several social media users reacted to Kanwal Aftab's recent videos, questioning why she resumed posting dance content, wearing Western outfits, traveling abroad, applying makeup, wearing nail polish, and laughing on camera so soon after performing Hajj.
Some also criticized her dressing style and repeatedly advised her on how she should wear her dupatta, arguing that her appearance should reflect her recent pilgrimage.
Responding through a video, Kanwal Aftab strongly rejected the criticism and urged people not to bring Hajj into every discussion about her personal life. She questioned why people were commenting on her clothes, makeup, nail polish, travel plans, and even the way she smiled.
She also expressed frustration over constant remarks about how she should wear her dupatta, saying those decisions were entirely her personal choice. Kanwal further said she was particularly disappointed by the criticism coming from women, adding that instead of supporting one another, some women were unnecessarily targeting and judging her.
Her response quickly sparked fresh debate on social media, after which Pakistani media critic Dr. Ejaz Waris also shared his views in a video. He said he was disappointed not only by Kanwal Aftab's reaction but also by the language she used while addressing the people who follow and support her.
Dr. Ejaz Waris acknowledged that criticism is a part of public life and that every well-known personality faces it. However, he stressed that public figures should always respond respectfully, especially when millions of people look up to them. Pointing to Kanwal Aftab's 22 million followers, he said influencers with such a massive audience should choose their words carefully and lead by example.
He further said that although he did not completely disagree with the concerns raised by some viewers, the bigger issue was the way Kanwal chose to respond. According to him, she could have replied politely or simply ignored the criticism instead of using harsh expressions. He added that he regularly receives criticism and even offensive comments himself, yet he believes audiences should always be addressed with respect.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Ejaz Waris questioned whether this was the right way for a public figure to speak to the very people who had contributed to her success. He left the matter for the public to decide, asking social media users whether they believed such a tone was appropriate when addressing loyal fans and followers.
