Mercury will rise further, warns Met Office

Large parts of the country are in the grip of extreme heat these days as the Met Office on Monday predicted that temperatures will go up further in the days to come, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In Lahore, the temperature shot up to 37 degrees Celsius early in the morning, while the Met Office said it was likely to touch the 47 degrees Celsius mark later in the afternoon.

It further said that it would remain 31 degrees Celsius on the minimum side.

The Office said that the breeze would blow in the city at the speed of eight kilometers per hour, while the level of moisture in the air would be recorded at 37 per cent.

The forecast for dry weather means there is little chance of relief for the residents of the city in the coming days.

Extreme heat to persist in Karachi

Just like other parts of the country, extreme heat would persist in Karachi during the next 24 hours, said the weather department.  

The department said that strong winds at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour would blow in the city.

The temperature in the city touched the 31 degrees Celsius mark in the morning, while it was predicted to go up to 37 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

The humidity level in the air in the morning was recorded at 65 per cent, while winds were blowing from south-westerly direction at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour.

Rain predicted for upper KP, GB

The Met Office said that rain was expected in parts of upper KP namely Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla and Battagram during the next 24 hours.

It also forecast rain for Gilgit-Baltistan.

Extremely hot weather was forecast for the rest of the country. 

Country to remain in grip of heatwave

Issuing an alert on Sunday, the Met Office had said that temperatures in the upper and central areas of the country, including Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, would remain 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above average. 

It further said temperatures in the southern parts of the country, including Balochistan, would remain 4 to 6 degrees above average.
