Google Messages set to introduce new feature for Android

Google Messages for Android is set to introduce a new feature that allows users to delete messages for everyone in an RCS group chat. This means messages can be removed from the conversation entirely, disappearing for all participants—not just the sender.

This "delete for everyone" capability has long been available on apps like WhatsApp. Now, when removing a message in Google Messages, users will see two options: "Delete for everyone" and "Delete for me."

However, Google notes that messages may still be visible to users on older versions of the app. The feature is part of the Universal Profile 2.7 update, which also introduces the ability to edit, recall, and delete messages for both senders and recipients.

According to a Reddit user testing the beta version, the "Delete for everyone" option currently appears in just one group chat with 12 members. It doesn't yet show up in smaller group chats or individual conversations.

At the moment, this feature isn’t widely available across all devices, suggesting a gradual rollout. Google is also working on additional enhancements for group chats, including join-by-link or QR code options and support for @-mentions—features that are already standard in apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.

It’s a welcome update for users hoping for more flexibility and control in their group messaging experience.
