Karachi University admits first transgender student in LLM

The Karachi University has become the country’s first varsity to admit a transgender person in M.Phil, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Nisha Rao has been admitted to the LLM course.
The Karachi University for the first time added the transgender column along with male and female columns in the admission form this year.
In July 2021, authorities had opened the country’s first government-run school for transgender students in Multan, with a promise to set up more such schools in the future.

The school, established by Punjab Education Department, had opened its doors on the first day of school with 18 students enrolled.
Trans people are considered outcasts by many, especially in conservative areas of the country. They are often sexually abused, assaulted and even murdered. They hesitate to get enrolled in regular schools to avoid discrimination.
