Pakistan annual IT export earnings surpass $1b

Pakistan’s freelance export sector has achieved massive total volume expansion, crossing the milestone of over $1 billion in annual IT export earnings and accounting for approximately 25% of total national IT exports, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

However, this top-line surge masks an underlying value compression, as the median transaction value plummeted 41% from $106 to $63.

This shift signals that growth is currently being driven by a high volume of lower-ticket, effort-based tasks that remain vulnerable to AI automation, highlighting an urgent strategic need to transition the talent base toward higher-value digital services and agency structures.

Earlier, the Government of Pakistan expanded export financing support to improve access to affordable funding, strengthen exporters’ competitiveness, and accelerate export-led economic growth.

The Export-Import Bank of Pakistan, the country’s Export Credit Agency and a policy institution, is managing key export financing schemes aimed at meeting the short- and long-term funding requirements of exporters.

Under the Enhanced Export Finance Scheme (EFS), the financing envelope has been increased to Rs1,500 billion for FY2026-27, up from Rs1,000bn previously.
