The US dollar smashed all the records against the rupee as its exchange rate climbed to Rs169 in open market after gaining 60 paisas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Similarly, the dollar was up by 51 paisas in inter-bank exchange rate too. Thus, the world’s top currency ended the session at Rs168.38.

The latest gains came as the dollar started the new business week in a bullish manner as its inter-bank exchange rate increased by 48 paisas during early trading.

Meanwhile, the euro was down in both open market and inter-bank trading, closing the day at Rs198 and Rs198.06 respectively. It means the euro lost Rs1.50 in open market and 49 paisas in inter-bank rate against the local currency on Monday.

However, the pound remained stable in open market at Rs221. As far as the inter-bank exchange rate in concerned, the pound closed at Rs219.80 while gaining two paisas against the rupee.

Although both euro and pound shed some of their value in the last two sessions, the euro had reached another milestone against the rupee by reaching the Rs200 mark in open market with a gain of Rs1.50 on Thursday last week.

Similarly, the pound sterling was available for Rs222 after gaining Rs2, thus setting a new record against the local currency.

A similar trend was witnessed in inter-bank exchange rate with the euro ending the day at Rs199.35 after gaining 70 paisas. 

In case of the pound, the increase was even bigger as it closed the session at Rs221.54. Hence, it made a gain of Rs1.69 during the day.
