Write ‘civilian’ instead of ‘Christian’ in sweeper vacancies ads, orders IHC

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ruled that ‘civilian’ should be written in advertisements issued for sweeper vacancies instead of Christian, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Pronouncing the verdict on Wednesday, IHC’s Justice Inam Amin Minhas remarked that sanitation workers are not “mechanical tools”, they should be given complete safety kits and facilities. “Sending workers into poisonous gases and life-threatening environment without safety measures tantamount to serious negligence,” he added.

The judge also expressed concern over increase in number of deaths of sanitation workers and issued instructions for introducing comprehensive safety measures across the country.

“All relevant departments should submit a detailed implementation report to the Deputy Registrar Judicial within two months,” the court directed.
