Epstein files trigger political crisis in Britain; pressure mounts on PM

British politics has been thrown into a fresh crisis following the public release of the Epstein files, with mounting pressure on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and growing calls for his resignation from within the Labour Party, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, two Labour Members of Parliament have formally demanded that Sir Keir step down, while senior Labour leader Anas Sarwar has also called for a change in the party’s leadership, signalling deepening unrest within the ruling party.

The pressure intensified after the Prime Minister’s Director of Communications, Tim Allen, resigned from his position, a move widely seen as linked to the political fallout surrounding the Epstein revelations.

Despite the turmoil, a majority of British cabinet ministers have publicly expressed their support for Sir Keir Starmer, seeking to project unity as the controversy unfolds.

The political crisis has also reignited international attention on figures connected to the late Jeffrey Epstein. Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of Epstein, has stated that she would be willing to testify if former US president Donald Trump were to grant her a pardon.

According to foreign media reports, Trump has so far avoided giving a clear response to the possibility of granting Maxwell a pardon.

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in 2021 and is currently serving a prison sentence for her role in human trafficking and other related offences connected to Epstein’s crimes.
