‘I’ve decided to not do films at the moment’: Mahira Khan
Mahira Khan, one of Pakistan’s leading actresses, revealed during the trailer launch of Aag Lagay Basti Mein (ALBM) that she is taking a temporary break from films.
This trailer launch took place on Monday at District 19, Karachi, hosted by Hassan Choudary who is a prominent Pakistani entertainment journalist, critic, and content creator known for his work with Something Haute.
The action-drama, set for Eid al-Fitr 2026, stars Khan alongside Fahad Mustafa, Tabish Hashmi, and Javed Sheikh.
Speaking to Sunday Times journalist Ameer Taimoor on the red carpet, Mahira described her experience filming ALBM as a unique challenge. “This film has so much, they have kept a lot of things hidden. Because they didn't wanna reveal the plot. But I was like 'Why didn't you put this scene, why didn't you put that scene'. Once you see it, you'll be like 'what is happening'. My character is completely different from who I am,” she said.
On her future projects, Mahira confirmed, “I've decided to not do films at the moment. I'm taking a little bit of time because I'm doing a serial and there's no way I can shoot two things at the same time. So until I get something insanely good, I will be…” She left the sentence hanging, hinting fans might expect carefully selected projects moving forward.
The ALBM trailer, released after the launch, highlights Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa’s sharp dialogues and on-screen wit, earning immediate praise from fans.

The film features Tabish Hashmi in his debut role, alongside veteran actor Javed Sheikh, and boasts cameo appearances from popular social media personalities, including Marzi Razaki and the viral meme creator Samra Shehzadi.
Produced by ARY Films, Salman Iqbal Films, and Big Bang Films under the direction of Bilal Atif Khan, Aag Lagay Basti Mein promises a mix of high-stakes action, intense drama, and witty exchanges as the film centers around a poverty-stricken home and how the couple taps into unlawful ways of earning, and the challenges they face.
