A local court in Sukkur has dismissed a petition seeking registration of a sedition case against PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The reserved verdict was announced on Friday by Fifth Additional and Sessions District Sessions Judge Mumtaz Solangi.

The judge threw out the petition against Maryam.

PTI District President Advocate Zaheer Babar submitted a petition to the district and session court of Sukkur seeking registration of a sedition case against Maryam Nawaz for making a speech against state institutions in Sargodha.

The court had summoned Maryam today. But her lawyers Zulfiqar Ali Milano and Zafar Edan Mangi represented her in the court.

Deputy Attorney General Pakistan Nisar Abro, officials of FIA and Sukkur polic,e and lawyers also appeared before the court.

At the outset of the hearing, Deputy AG Abro told the court that since the speech was made in Sargodha, then according to the law, the petition should be filed in the Sargodha district court.

Petitioner Advocate Babar contended that a sedition case should be ordered against PML-N leader Maryam for delivering a hateful speech she made against Pakistan Army and judiciary in Sargodha.

He also raised objection on the power of attorney paper submitted by Maryam’s lawyers casting a doubt on the authenticity of the signature of Maryam on the legal document.

After hearing arguments, Judge Solangi reserved the verdict on the petition.
