Marka-e-Haq: Field Marshal Asim Munir to address GHQ commemoration ceremony

A grand ceremony will be held at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of the victory of “Marka-e-Haq” against India, with Pakistan’s top military leadership expected to attend the event.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, will attend the ceremony as the chief guest.

Chief of Air Staff Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Chief of Naval Staff Naveed Ashraf will also participate in the commemorative gathering.

According to officials, the ceremony will begin with the laying of a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, followed by a salute presented by smartly turned-out contingents from the Army, Air Force and Navy.

Field Marshal Asim Munir is also expected to visit the Martyrs’ Memorial, lay floral wreaths and offer Fateha for the country’s fallen soldiers.

An important address by the army chief is expected during the ceremony and will be broadcast live nationwide.

Meanwhile, authorities in Islamabad have issued a traffic advisory ahead of events linked to the anniversary commemorations.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said the capital’s traffic police had announced special traffic arrangements for Sunday in connection with the Marka-e-Haq anniversary events.

According to the advisory, Srinagar Highway from Korianwala Chowk to Peshawar Mor will remain closed to traffic on both sides during specified hours.

The Islamabad Expressway from Faizabad to Khayaban Chowk will also remain closed for vehicles travelling towards Faisal Avenue.

Citizens travelling from the motorway or Islamabad Chowk towards Bhara Kahu and Murree have been advised to use 9th Avenue and Colonel Sher Khan Road via Murree Road as alternative routes.

Sources said senior civilian and military leadership are also expected to attend another commemorative ceremony planned at the National Monument near Zero Point in Islamabad.

Deputy Commissioner Memon stated that temporary traffic diversions would remain in place from 6pm until midnight across several routes in the capital.

He urged citizens to plan their travel in advance, use alternative routes where possible and cooperate with traffic officials to ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience.
