Ogra hikes gas tariff by 74 percent

New rates will be effective from July 1

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has approved 74 percent rise in gas rates from July 1 this year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Ogra issued its decisions on the applications moved by the gas companies for hiking the tariff.

The 74.42 percent raise will be applicable to the consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) while 67.75 percent increase will be slapped on consumers of Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited (SSGPL).

According to the Ogra ruling, the increase in gas tariff per MMBTU for the SNGPL is Rs406.28 while the raise for SSGPL is Rs469.28.

The present average gas rate per MMBTU for SNGPL is Rs545.89 while the new approved price is Rs952.17.

For SSGPL, the present rate is Rs692.63 while the new approved tariff is 1,161.91 per MMBTU.

The Ogra decision will be enforced after getting federal government’s consent.

The Ogra decision will automatically be effective if the federal government does not give its approval in 40 days.
