Announces to restore old Karachi city in its real shape
Karachi Mayor has ordered the Water Corporation to launch strict action against individuals involved in widespread water theft, announcing that a grand operation will begin later this month.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the initiative aims to curb the longstanding issue of illegal water extraction, which has contributed heavily to Karachi’s chronic water shortages.
Addresssing the media on Sunday, Mayor Murtaza Wahab directed the Water Corporation to immediately establish special enforcement teams to execute the crackdown.
He said the operation will target illegal hydrants and unauthorised water connections across the city, with instructions to eliminate them entirely.
The Mayor also confirmed that legal proceedings related to water theft will now be handled by the newly established Water Tribunal.
The Tribunal’s structural framework has been completed, and a judge has been appointed in consultation with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The city administration is aiming to formally inaugurate the Tribunal before the end of the month.
Calling the move a decisive step toward accountability, the Mayor said the time for strict action against water thieves has finally arrived, adding that the campaign will ensure better regulation and protection of the city’s water resources.
He also announced to restore the old city in its real beautiful shape as tenders have been released in this regard.
