District judiciary restores six-day workweek as two-day weekend policy ends

District courts across Pakistan will resume a six-day working week after the National Judicial Policy Making Committee decided to withdraw the additional weekly holiday introduced under an energy conservation policy.

The decision was approved during a meeting of the committee chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.

Under the new arrangement, district courts nationwide, including those in the Faisalabad division, will return to a six-day work schedule, ending the two-day weekend that had been implemented as part of energy-saving measures.

According to officials, the additional weekly holiday granted under the government's energy conservation strategy has been withdrawn following the committee's review of judicial operations and court functioning.

The restoration of the six-day workweek is expected to increase court working hours and assist in the disposal of pending cases by providing litigants and legal practitioners with an additional working day each week.

The National Judicial Policy Making Committee is responsible for formulating policies aimed at improving the performance and efficiency of the judicial system.

Officials said the revised schedule would be implemented across district courts in accordance with the committee's decision.
