The national hero, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, had written a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah a few days before his death, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

In the letter, he expressed his gratitude to Murad Ali Shah for showing concerns about his deteriorating health.

He said no representative of the federation and the three provinces contacted him in his tough times, except the Sindh chief minister.

Last month, a report said the national hero had complained of being ignored by the government bigwigs. “I am quite disappointed that neither the prime minister nor his cabinet members have enquired after me,” Dr Khan said from a local hospital.

The atomic scientist was hailed as a national hero for transforming Pakistan into the world's first Islamic nuclear power. Pakistan tested its nuclear bombs on May 28, 1998. After his retirement from the country’s nuclear programme, he started writing the national dailies.
