Karachi goods transporters say strike will continue until demands are accepted

Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan on Friday firmly stated that the ongoing nationwide transport strike will continue until the government accepts the alliance’s demands.

In a series of strong messages, he clarified that any announcement made from Lahore regarding an end to the strike should not be taken seriously by transporters.

Awan emphasized that only the central leadership in Karachi will announce the conclusion of the strike, reiterating that transporters across Pakistan stand united and determined.

“We, the transporters of Lahore, clearly express our lack of interest in negotiations with the Punjab government,” he said, adding that the strike remains peaceful but resolute. He expressed gratitude to the Oil Tankers Association for extending full support to the movement.

The alliance president noted that transporters from every region are in close coordination. “The decision is one, and the platform is one. Drivers and transporters are fully united for their rights,” he said. Awan stressed that while the community remains peaceful, they will not compromise on their “legitimate rights.”

Warning of stronger action if their demands are ignored, Awan said, “If the government does not accept our demands, the protest will become more intense.” He added that the morale of the transport community is high and the strike is being carried out with full determination across the country.

The Goods Transport Alliance has not yet disclosed a timeline for talks, but the leadership maintains that the strike will continue until meaningful progress is made.
