Man arrested for just crossing Lahore Ring Road on foot

In an unprecedented move, Lahore police have arrested a citizen for attempting to cross the city’s Ring Road on foot, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

According to the report, the incident marks the first recorded case of a pedestrian being taken into custody for walking across the high-speed corridor.

The TV channel reported that the man identified as Arsalan was detained after allegedly crossing the Ring Road near the Nawaz Sharif Underpass.

As per the first information report (FIR), the Ring Road violator's action disrupted traffic flow and endangered the lives of motorists using the busy expressway.

Ring Road Police apprehended Arsalan and transferred him to the Defence-C police station, where a formal case was registered against him.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Senior Patrolling Officer of the Ring Road Lahore, Aamir Mehmood, who argued that pedestrian crossings on the controlled-access road posed serious safety risks and required strict enforcement.

Police officials have said the arrest is intended to discourage similar violations in the future on a roadway designed exclusively for high-speed vehicular movement.

The Lahore Ring Road (LRR) is an 85 km orbital highway encircling Lahore, Pakistan, designed to ease city traffic with its multi-lane, signal-free design, connecting to major motorways (M-2, M-11) and highways (N-5) via numerous interchanges like Babu Sabu and Ferozpur Road.

Managed by the Punjab Ring Road Authority (PRRA), it's divided into Northern, Southern, and Western loops, with the Northern Loop largely complete and parts of the Southern Loop also operational, significantly improving connectivity and reducing congestion. congestion.
