The Lahore High Court on Friday declared “right” the sale of sugarcane to other provinces, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The court disposed of the petition against the sale of sugarcane to other provinces.

Justice Jawad Hassan of the Lahore High Court remarked that it was the choice of the poor farmer to sell his sugarcane whosoever he wants to sell as per the demand and supply situation.

“A farmer can sell his sugarcane to any province as he enjoys rights as per the Constitution of Pakistan,” the judge added.

The court further said the sugar mills have no right to economically pressurise the peasants.

The cane commissioner informed the court that the sugar mills were not allowed to set up purchase centres.

The court said there was no legal bar to stop the farmers from selling their sugarcane.
