“The Greatest” Muhammad Ali to appear on two US Postal Service stamps

The US Postal Service will honor legendary boxer Muhammad Ali with two commemorative stamps, fulfilling the late three-time heavyweight champion’s playful quip that he should be a postage stamp “because that’s the only way I’ll ever get licked.”

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. in Louisville, Ali became a global icon not only for his prowess in the ring but also for his humanitarian work, including supporting medical relief, feeding the hungry, and advocating for those in need.

Ali passed away in 2016 at the age of 74, having battled Parkinson’s disease for over three decades.

During his life and posthumously, he received numerous honors, including an Olympic gold medal (1960), the United Nations Messenger of Peace award (1998), and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2005).

The stamp issue holds special significance for Lonnie Ali, Muhammad’s wife, who said it celebrates his mission of spreading compassion and connecting with people.

The couple also founded the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville in 2016.
