Balochistan High Court suspends quota for federal employees’ children at BRC Loralai

The Balochistan High Court on Thursday stopped the implementation of an admission quota reserved for children of federal employees in Class 7 at Balochistan Residential College, Loralai.

The case was heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Malakhel and Justice Najmuddin Mengal.

During the proceedings, Advocate Supreme Court Ali Ahmed Kakar appeared on behalf of the petitioner and argued that six seats in Balochistan Residential Colleges had been reserved for children of employees of federal departments.

He contended that instead of allocating the seats to children of local employees, admissions were being granted to non-local students and non-domicile holders from other provinces. The petitioner also alleged that some students who had obtained low marks in the recent entrance test for the college were granted admission under the quota.

The petitioner argued that the admission policy for children of federal department employees in BRC colleges was contrary to the Constitution and law, and requested the court to declare the policy null and void.

After hearing the arguments, the court directed authorities to temporarily stop admissions to the seats reserved for children of federal employees in Class 7 at Balochistan Residential Colleges.

The court also issued notices to the Secretary of the Colleges and Higher Education Department and the principal of BRC Loralai, seeking their response in the matter.

Further hearing of the case will take place after the Eid al-Fitr holidays.
