Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the root causes of inflation are international, reporting 24NewsHD TV on Thursday.

Talking to the media after meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee, Fawad said that in the meeting, the matters related to the inflation were discussed and the party leaders were taken into the confidence. Today's PTI core committee meeting was only about inflation and the economy, Fawad added.

The Minister said inflation is a global phenomenon due to Covid-19 pandemic. He said the meeting discussed the inflation issue in detail and decided to increase funding under different initiatives including health, Ehsaas and Kamyab Pakistan to facilitate the people.

He said the government is also committed to electoral reforms in the country to ensure free, fair and transparent elections and the Speaker of the National Assembly is in contact with the opposition to develop consensus in this regard.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that matters related to local government elections in KP were also discussed during the meeting.

He said the Committee appreciated the Prime Minister for his appearance before the Supreme Court on short notice to ensure rule of law in the country.

The matters related to the situation in Afghanistan and elections for local bodies were also came under the discussion, said Fawad Chaudhry.

Fawad said work is underway on a major project to curb inflation.

“After coronavirus pandemic, inflation has reached the world, He added, Pakistan has fight the pandemic with great success. The United Kingdom (UK) is also under tremendous pressure, right now.”

Fawad said there has been development in the agricultural sector in Pakistan and increase in the income of laborers and merchants.

Fawad said the salaried class of society feels that inflation prevails. Meanwhile, income of people belonged to other segment of society has been increased, Information Minister added.

Fawad said sales of cars and motorcycles have also been increased.

Talking on ballooning price of petrol, Fawad said that the percentage of petrol consumption has also increased.
