HEC Executive Director holds two senior public posts simultaneously

A significant governance controversy has emerged at Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC), with its newly appointed Executive Director found to be simultaneously holding his previous public office, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday. 

Dr Zia-ul-Haq, who has been appointed as HEC's Executive Director for a four-year term at the commission's headquarters in Islamabad, continues to serve concurrently as Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University (KMU) in Peshawar, apparently without having formally relinquished the university post despite assuming his new federal-level responsibilities.

The development has raised concerns about the holding of dual offices.

When inquired by the media persons about the development, HEC Chairman Dr Niaz Ahmed said he was not aware of the situation. 

“We will let you know after confirming with the Islamabad head office,” he said.
