Federal Minister Fehmida Mirza and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Dr Shahbaz Gill Friday urged Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Lt (retd) Arif Hasan to step down after the Pakistani team’s bad performance in Olympics.

Addressing a joint press conference they said the POA president should resign himself.

The federal minister said that sports in Pakistan had been ruined after 2004 and Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hasan was enjoying the post since 2004.

The former speaker National Assembly further stated that during his tenure, sports federations as well as sports institutions had also been ruined.

She said that sports were something for which you could get results after facilitating it more and more and her government would inaugurate an elite pool for supporting the brilliant children soon.

Dr Shahbaz said it was very unfortunate in Pakistan that some people stuck with their posts for monkey share of sports funds allocated for the children.

PM’s aide said Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hasan was serving on the post since 2004 that was even longer than the tenure of the Sharif family in the country.

He added that his federal government wanted his resignation as the nation wouldn’t tolerate him at all anymore.
