A great tribute to Robin Gosh on his 9th death anniversary

Today is the 13th of February, marking the 9th death anniversary of celebrated Pakistani-Bangladeshi playback singer and film music composer Robin Gosh, who was the husband of acclaimed Bangladeshi–Pakistani filmstar Shabnam. On the solemn occasion, we decided to reflect on his remarkable journey filled with passion, creativity, and unwavering love for music.

Robin Gosh was born on 13 September 1939 in Baghdad, Iraq. He was educated in a convent school. His father was a Bengali Hindu who worked for the International Red Cross during the period of the Second World War: whereas his mother was an Arab Catholic Christian named Asnat Zia Ghosh. Gosh himself opted for the Christian religion.

In the late 1950s, Ghosh had won a job at the Dhaka Radio Station through a good friend whose’ sister, Shabnam who occasionally played in various Bengali films, became friends with him. The two ultimately got married and had a son, Ronnie (born 1966).

Gosh was an important figure in the golden age of music in the 1960s and 1970s. He was well-recognized for his excellent contributions in Pakistani and Bengali films.

Robin Ghosh also bagged fame and recognition in the middle of the 1960s when renowned playback vocalist Ahmed Rushdi performed his songs in films such as "Chakori," "Jahan Tum Wahan Hum," "Paisa," and numerous others. His biggest contribution was the composition of songs for the film Aaina (1977) which was one of the greatest films ever made in the Pakistani film industry.

Gosh has won the Nigar Award for best composer six times for the films Chakori, Chahat, Bandish, Talash, Dooriyan and Aina.

He died on 13 February 2016, at the age of 78 after respiratory failure.
