Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan appointed new Chairperson of Punjab Higher Education Commission
The Government of Punjab has appointed Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan as the new Chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) for a four-year term, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.
The appointment was made by Punjab Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz, who also serves as the Controlling Authority of PHEC, following an interview process that shortlisted three candidates.
The position had been lying vacant for the past six months. Dr. Khan, a distinguished academic and administrator, was selected to lead the commission tasked with steering the higher education agenda in Punjab.
Dr Khan, a prominent agricultural scientist, has served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad as he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture three times.
Dr. Khan also has been awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz awards by the Government of Pakistan.
Following the Chief Minister's approval, the Higher Education Department formally issued a notification on May 13, 2025, stating that Dr. Khan’s appointment is effective immediately under Section 5(1) and 5(2) of the Punjab Higher Education Commission Act, 2014.
