Polio workers stage protest for pay raise

A large number of polio workers on Wednesday staged a protest at Torkham border, while demanding an increase in salaries, reported 24NewSHD TV channel. 

They also boycotted the campaign to administer polio drops to children. 

The protestors said that wages have not been increased for a number of years and demanded that their pay should also be increased like other workers. 

The polio workers also demanded that government should ensure timely payment of their salaries and that workers should be given a daily allowance of Rs.1000 rupees during the polio campaigns. 

“All facilities should be provided to workers who are performing their duties at Torkham border,” they said. 

It is pertinent to note that anti-polio workers administer polio drops to the children travelling to Afghanistan.
