Alleged mastermind among 13 arrested for attack on Rangers installation in Karachi
Law enforcement agencies have made headway in the investigation into the attack on a Rangers installation in Karachi, arresting 13 suspects, including the alleged mastermind of the attack.
According to investigators, the alleged mastermind, identified as Qari Bashir alias Qari Habib, was taken into custody during the ongoing operation against those linked to the attack.
During the investigation, authorities obtained a video statement of the arrested suspect, in which he allegedly disclosed key details about the planning and execution of the attack. According to the statement, Qari Bashir admitted that he had provided shelter to the four attackers at a house in Zia Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi.
He claimed that after spending the first night at the hideout, one of the terrorists took another attacker, identified as Usman, on a motorcycle the following day to conduct reconnaissance of the Rangers installation near Meteorological Chowrangi. After completing the recce, Usman was reportedly brought back to the hideout in Zia Colony.
Investigators have obtained an initial video allegedly recorded before the attack, showing the four attackers shortly before they carried out the assault. The footage reportedly captures the suspects being seen off before leaving for the operation.
The video allegedly includes Usman, the attacker who was captured alive following the assault on the Rangers installation.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing to identify and arrest any remaining facilitators or accomplices involved in the attack.
