VVI meetings of prisoners convicted of serious offences banned in Punjab jails

A ban has been imposed on the VVI meetings of the prisoners sentenced in connection with heinous crimes in the Punjab jails, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.  

In this connection, the IG Jail, in a letter, has ordered the jail superintendents not to allow the prisoners falling in four categories to hold meetings in the Admin Block.

The ban covers those serving prison terms in cases of robbery, terrorism, kidnapping and narcotics. 

The prisoners on death row are already denied meetings in the Admin Block.

There will only be routine meetings of these prisoners with their blood relations and lawyers.

The IG has further directed that prisoners falling in all categories should be allowed to meet twice a week.

Furthermore, he has said that the meal, after having been served to prisoners, should not be kept in kitchens but should be immediately disposed of.

Likewise, there should be three slips when family members of prisoners bring food items for them, reads the IG’s letter.
