One suspect dead, two escape in Bahawalnagar police encounter

An alleged encounter between the Crime Control Department (CCD) police and a group of armed suspects took place within the jurisdiction of Takht Mahal Police Station in Bahawalnagar, leaving one suspect dead while two of his accomplices managed to escape, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the suspects opened fire after spotting the CCD police team. The officers retaliated in self-defence, leading to an exchange of intense gunfire.

During the encounter, one of the suspects, identified as Latif, was reportedly killed after being struck by bullets allegedly fired by his own accomplices in the darkness. The remaining two suspects fled the scene under the cover of darkness.

Police said Latif was allegedly involved in several robbery cases and had a criminal record. An illegal weapon was also recovered from his control during the operation.

The body of the deceased suspect has been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Following the escape, police launched a search operation and set up checkpoints in the area to arrest the two escaped suspects. 

Further investigation into the alleged encounter is underway.
