Petrol, Diesel prices slashed by Rs5 per litre from May 16

The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) has announced a reduction of Rs5 per litre in the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel for the coming week.

According to an official press release issued by the ministry, the revised ex-depot prices will come into effect from May 16, 2026.

Under the new rates, the price of petrol (motor spirit) has been reduced from Rs414.78 to Rs409.78 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been lowered from Rs414.58 to Rs409.58 per litre.

The notification states that both petroleum products have been made cheaper by Rs5 per litre compared to the previous prices that were effective from May 9, 2026.

The reduction in fuel prices is expected to provide some relief to consumers, particularly transporters and commuters, amid ongoing economic pressures.
