PPP’s relations with establishment not strained, says Bilawal

Dispelling the impression that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the country’s establishment had strained relations, former foreign minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday said that the party was only interested in doing politics, which it was doing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to media in Tharparkar, he said his only message for the former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif was that he should do politics on his own, and not ask any state institution to assist him for that. “Environment has been made conducive for the PML-N’s ascent to power,” he said, adding, “However, we are not feeling shy from facing our opponents no matter how unfavourable the circumstances are.”

PPP chairman said that if the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) was bad at the time of general elections in 2018, so it was now.

“This is my advice to Nawaz that he should focus on Punjab and Lahore rather than entering into alliances with political parties in other provinces,” Bilawal said.

He said he knew that the PML-N supremo was confronting difficulties in Lahore.

He said he openly admitted that he was the foreign minister in the last coalition government, and was not hiding it from the people so that he could escape accountability. “Truth of the matter is that I take pride on serving as the foreign minister of the country for 15 months,” he said, and added, “PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif should ask Ishaq Dar whether he is ready for the elections on the basis of his performance as the country’s finance minister.”

PPP chairman said that the party was fulfilling the promises her mother late Benazir Bhutto had made to the masses. “It is unfortunate that we are criticized for not delivering,” he said.  

Bilawal said that the Thar Coal was a successful public-private project, which was a befitting reply to the PPP’s detractors.   

He said there was no denying the fact that there was poverty and unemployment in the country. “Unfortunately, we are the victims of propaganda that we are against the provision of a business-friendly environment,” he said.

“PPP after coming to power will not rest until it provides job to each and every unemployed person,” PPP chairman vowed.  

Bilawal said that there was a need to build three universities in Tharparkar. “We will build a hospital in the area where the locals will be provided treatment free of cost,” he informed.

He informed media men that connecting Karachi with Tharparkar through a rail network was also on the cards.

He asked the caretaker government to hold general elections.

“Unfortunately not much work has been done in Pakistan on people’s mental health, and this leads people to commit suicide,” he regretted, adding that the PPP had a comprehensive programme for improving mental health of people. 

He was of the view that any incident of suicide was a matter of shame for politicians as well as the government.
