Supreme Court staff in a fix over issuing cause list
The judges’ roaster and the cause list of the Supreme Court (SC) for the next week could not be issued on Saturday as the confusion as to which case would be referred to the SC and which to the constitutional court prompted the branch, tasked with fixing cases for the hearing, to turn to the Registrar’s office for guidance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The confusion stems from the 27th Constitutional Amendment under which a federal constitutional court has been set up.
The amendment has made the apex court subordinate to the constitutional court as the latter’s rulings will be binding on the former.
The situation appeared to be more tricky following the resignation of two senior judges of the apex court – Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah – after the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
