Govt under fire for issuing irresponsible remarks

October 15, 2021 06:50 AM

Prime Minister Imran Khan and his ministers has taken flak for their failure to address the matter of ISI DG's appointment sensibly.

Senior journalists and analysts Salim Bokhari, Iftikhar Ahmad, PJ Mir and Javed Iqbal during 24NewsHD TV programme DNA

Salim Bokhari said the government seems to be talking irresponsibly to the media about the issue that should have been resolved amicably.

Instead of giving the right advice to the Prime Minister, they are trying to make him feel that he is an elected and very powerful prime minister.

PJ Mir said had he been in such a situation, he would serve one or two show-cause notices on Aamir Dogar – a key member of PM Imran's team.

Javed Iqbal said the Prime Minister wants to make this country a 'banana republic'. Iftikhar Ahmed said the prime minister and his cabinet should focus on measures to control inflation and provide the people with some relief from a grave situation. They are paying more attention to non-issues, he rued.

Javed Iqbal said that Imran Khan cannot face the people so he wants to confuse the people in various issues.

Salim Bokhari said Nawaz Sharif had earlier tried to handle the affairs of intelligence agencies in a wrong way and had made Ziaud Din Butt the army chief, but Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum's name has been finalised without the advice of the PM.

Halting PIA operations in Kabul by Taliban also came under discussion during the programme. The senior journalists and analysts took a swipe at the Taliban for doing such a deplorable act at a time when Pakistan is extending support to them for preventing Afghanistan from plunging into a civil war.

They (Taliban) should be grateful to Pakistan for its contribution to foreigners safe evacuation.

Salim Bokhari said such an act is unacceptable and stressed that the diplomate in Afghanistan should register Pakistani strong reaction with the authorities

Iftikhar Ahmed said that the way PIA helped evacuation at Kabul airport in the most difficult and dangerous situation, the Taliban should have been grateful to Pakistan.

But he added that they aimed arms at Pakistani station manager and harassed them.

The panel commented on the meetings of the US Secretary of State with Shahbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and termed these meetings as of paramount importance.
