State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib has said that Kamyaab Jawan Programme is not aimed at giving money to the young people to buy laptops or yellow cabs rather it is a scheme to make them skilful. He said under this scheme, over 100,000 scholarships amounting to Rs5 billion have been given to the youth, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
State Minister Habib was addressing a presser along with Special Assistant on Youth Affairs Usman Dar in Islamabad on Friday.
Usman Dar asserted about the transparency of the programme saying he challenged everyone regarding the fairness of the scheme.
Mr Habib said that under this programme, many young people including women had started their own businesses. He said the objective of the scheme was to make people skilful instead of giving them loans for laptops and buying cabs. He said that 100,000 more scholarships would also be given under this skill development programme. He stated that the programme was providing hi-tech skills to the youth in 100 different fields including artificial intelligence, cyber security, mobile app development and cloud computing.
Usman Dar said 38,000 scholarships were given in Punjab, 20,000 in Sindh, 10,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6,000 in Balochistan, 2,000 each in Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan and 13,000 in Azad Kashmir. He said 40% of the scholarships were given to the women.
Usman Dar further stated that under Kamyab Jawan Programme, loans of Rs2billion to Rs4 billion were being disbursed to the youth every month. More initiatives will also be launched under this scheme, he concluded.
