Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Gomal University Professor Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad has said that assets of the university are not his personal property which he could transfer to any other university, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
In his reply to the letter written by acting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governor and KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani, in which he, instead of taking notice of the threatening posture of the former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur, had ordered him (the VC) to transfer the university’s properties to the university of agriculture, the VC has said that as per law the university’s properties could not be distributed, and neither he has the courage to break the law.
He goes on to say that former federal minister and PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur is still threatening him due to which he and his family feel insecure. “And the police are also reluctant to provide security to us,” he wrote.
Citing Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) verdict, dated September 22, 2021, VC Dr. Iftikhar said that in it the court had clearly stated that under the University Model Act, Gomal University’s properties were indivisible.
He reminded the acting governor that the decision taken by the university senate, which he wanted him to implement, had also been suspended by the PHC through its verdict date 15-8-2022.
In the letter, the vice-chancellor has requested Ghani to guide him as to what should be his course of action. “Should I go against the court orders and commit contempt of court especially when all my life I have been a law-abiding citizen and have told my pupils to do the same?” he questioned.
