Homeless man dies 13 days after police assault in France

A judicial investigation has been launched against a French police officer after a homeless man died days after the officer allegedly pushed him forcefully to the ground during a music festival in the city of Carcassonne, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.

According to international media reports, the incident took place on June 12 when the officer allegedly pushed the homeless man identified as Yousaf with such force that he fell headfirst onto the ground.

Witnesses said the man was not immediately given medical assistance, while police officers allegedly prevented others at the scene from helping him.

The incident sparked protests from people present at the festival.

The man reportedly remained between life and death for 13 days before he died from his injuries.

The French prosecutor said disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against the police officer.

 An investigation is being conducted into allegations of intentional violence by a person exercising public authority.

The police internal affairs body has also been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
