FBR’s role redefined; new Tax Policy Office takes charge

The newly-established Tax Policy Office (TPO) will directly operate under the Federal Ministry of Finance and Revenue and play a key role in tax legislation and economic policy, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Sunday.

The TPO will be responsible for introducing new laws and amendments and assessing their impact. Using advanced data modelling techniques, it will analyse tax receivables and their effect on the national economy.

Additionally, the office will review Pakistan’s global tax accords and coordinate budget proposals and joint tax strategies. All recommendations and proposals will be forwarded to the Finance Ministry for final approval.

Sources revealed that following recent reforms, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will now solely focus on tax collection, while the TPO will handle policy matters. 

These measures aim to ensure greater transparency and efficiency in the preparation of the 2025-26 federal budget.
