Rains wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh; death toll reaches 106

Severe monsoon rains have triggered widespread devastation in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, with the death toll from the resulting floods and landslides rising to 106, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

In its latest report, the SDMA confirmed that 62 fatalities were caused by landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning incidents, and electrocution.

An additional 44 people lost their lives in other rain-related accidents, underscoring the scale of the ongoing disaster.

The torrential rains have severely impacted critical infrastructure across the state. Roads have been washed away, water supply systems disrupted, power infrastructure damaged, and numerous health and educational facilities left in ruins.

As the possibility of more rainfall looms, the Disaster Management Department has issued a public appeal urging residents to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant.

Authorities are continuing rescue and relief operations in the hardest-hit areas, while meteorological agencies monitor the evolving weather patterns.
