The International Astronomy Centre of Saudi Arabia has said Eid Al Fitr should fall on Saturday, 22 April - a day later than expected.
The centre said the sighting the crescent of the moon on Thursday (Ramadan 29) would not be "possible from anywhere in the Arab and Islamic world, and so Eid will fall on Saturday, April 22," it reported on Sunday.
Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court earlier urged people throughout the kingdom to report sighting of the crescent from Thursday.
In the Kingdom, the Eid holidays will begin on Friday, April 21, which is already a weekend day.
Pakistan government has already declared a nationwide public holiday for five days on the occasion of Eid al Fitr.
The holidays will begin on Friday, April 21, and run until Tuesday, April 25.
Earlier, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council (RHRC) said that Eidul Fitr is likely to be celebrated across the nation this year on Saturday, April 22 after completing 30 fasting days of the holy month of Ramazan.
The council's Secretary-General, Khalid Ijaz Mufti, said that the committee's meeting is set to convene on Thursday, April 20, in order to sight the Shawwal moon.
If the crescent is sighted on Thursday evening, then Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, April 21. However, he added, it was unlikely that the moon will be sighted the same evening.
