Karachi police review security measures for Chinese nationals

A high-level meeting to review and strengthen security arrangements for Chinese residents in Karachi was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of DIG South Asad Raza.

The meeting was attended by SSP Keamari, SSP South, officials from the Special Protection Unit (SPU), and other senior officers concerned. During the session, DIG South was given a comprehensive briefing on the existing security measures in place for foreign consulates and foreign nationals, with particular focus on Chinese residents living and working in the South Zone.

Participants conducted a detailed review of current protection arrangements and assessed their effectiveness. Emphasizing the importance of robust security, DIG South directed officers to carry out a fresh survey of security plans for foreign consulates to further strengthen and make them foolproof.

It was decided that police patrolling in and around foreign consulates would be increased, while additional checkpoints would be established at sensitive locations to enhance monitoring and rapid response capabilities.

DIG South also instructed officers to ensure strict and complete implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the movement, accommodation and protection of foreign nationals, especially Chinese residents.

“All existing security arrangements for Chinese residents must be reviewed immediately,” he said, adding that any loopholes or deficiencies should be identified and removed without delay to ensure comprehensive and effective protection.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the South Zone Police’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment for foreign nationals in Karachi.
