Passenger bus overturns in Iran, 13 dead
At least 13 people were killed and 13 others injured after a passenger bus travelling from Isfahan to Mashhad overturned in Iran, officials said, marking one of the deadliest road accidents in recent days.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the bus, which was carrying a large number of passengers, reportedly lost control before overturning on a highway and colliding with a taxi.
Eleven passengers on the bus and two people travelling in the taxi died in the crash.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, where several were reported to be in serious condition.
The impact of the collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles, officials said.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, including possible mechanical failure, road conditions or human error.
Iran has witnessed a number of fatal road accidents in recent years, often attributed to speeding and poor safety standards.
