February 17, 2022 04:04 PM

The government has massively increased the withholding tax (WHT) on registration of new vehicles to control the ever-increasing undocumented ‘own money’ on cars, reporter 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

The 100 percent raise in registration and transfer of cars has raised many an eyebrow.

The withholding tax of cars of up to 1000cc has now climbed up to Rs100,000 from Rs50,000.

However, the withholding tax on 1000cc and above cars has been increased from Rs100,000 to Rs200,000.

The collection of withholding tax was recently started by the tax authorities at the time of registration of new vehicles.

Punjab Excise and Taxation department has started collecting the tax as per the revised list issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
