Hunger is expected to increase 30pc till 2050 due to climate change

A report of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition stated that a 30 percent rise will be witnessed by 2050 due to climate change, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The report further revealed that climate change became a “serious threat” to food, employment, and health 

Increased carbon dioxide levels are starting to reduce the nutritional value of staple crops, and 5,00,000 people are likely to die annually till 2050.

Pakistan is likely to face a 19 percent shortage in wheat production and marginable decrease in wheat production in Punjab also became a threat to the protection of national food security.

Balochistan and interior Sindh are likely to be the most affected by climate disasters. 

Decrease of protein, zinc, and iron affects crops

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition report reveals that climate change has increased the risk of malnutrition and stunting in children.

Increased risks such as floods, droughts, and glacial lake outburst floods. An increase in hot temperature and dry weather is also affecting the system of diet. 

Significant progress in the Limit and Health Vulnerability Assessment. There is still room for improvement in national climate policies.
